I want to make scalloped or au-gratin potatoes in the crock pot for our workplace party next weekend. I made one last year and it turned out just "okay". If anyone has a tried and true recipe, I would appreciate it !
Or another veggie type side dish. It will need to compliment fried turkey

Hey Sis, I have a couple different recipes for both but are for the oven, if you would like either or both of those, let me know, I'll PM you? You could always make them in the oven then put them in the crockpot to heat up/keep warm?
God bless,

Hello Faith----here's one I did for thanksgiving----that was a big hit.
3 lbs. par boiled potatoes
1 med. onion--thinly sliced
1 cup milk half stick of margarine
1 8oz. pack of cream cheese--cut into small sqs.
1 8 oz. package of extra sharp cheddar cheese.
Mix with an electric mixer---the milk margarine and cream cheese--until well blended.
next --slice the par boiled potatoes thin---and layer the onion and potatoes and cheese.
Finally--top off with the blended--milk --margarine---and leftover cheddar cheese.
Note----because the potatoes are parboiled and the onion is thinly sliced---this is a pretty quick recipe. You are basically, allowing everything to melt and "marry-up", with each other!
Also Faith---if you spray your crock pot, with veg. spray or pam, before you begin----your clean up later, should be simple. Allow about 3 hrs. to blend, before serving.

Cheese Scalloped Potatoes
4 large potatoes sliced thin
1 cup onions sliced thin
1 cup shredded cheese
1 can cream of chicken soup
Tony's Chachere or Cajun Seasonings to taste
1/4 cup butter approximately
~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~
Directions
Spray Pam at bottom of casserole dish. Make a layer of potatoes to fill bottom (try to make as little of the dish show through the potatoes). Sprinkle a little seasoning, a little cheese, few dabs of butter. Keep layering till all potatoes are used. Spoon can of cream of chicken soup. Make sure the soup is spread over all top layer of potato. Cover and bake for approximately 45 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Recommended Sides - Excellent with country fried chicken and garlic bread!!
Here's one from my RIVAL CrockPot Cook book, but I have not tried it:
Potatoes Perfect
1/4 lb. bacon, diced (of course, I would use turkey bacon or eliminate or use Baco's)
2 medium onions, thinly sliced
4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
1/2 lb. Gruyere or Cheddar cheese, thinly sliced
Salt and Pepper
Butter
Line Crock-Pot with aluminum foil, leaving enough to overlap potatoes when finished. Layer half each of the bacon, onions, potatoes, and cheese in Crock-Pot. Season to taste and dot with butter. Repeat layers of bacon, onions potatoes and cheese. Dot with butter. Overlap with remiaing foil. Cover and cook on Low setting for 10 to 12 hours (on High setting for 3 to 4 hours).
4 to 6 servings (about 3 1/2 quarts).
I guess I would double or triple the recipe, depending on how many people I was trying to serve and how big my crock pot was...
Good luck!
Thank you everyone ! From looking at the recipes , I think I will combine them in a way. I like the addition of cream cheese. Last year I made one with the cream of chicken soup (think I used cream of celery instead). It was missing somthing. I think it was the HAM ! LOL
I may try to make one with cubed, smoked turkey sausage. I think it is by Butterball, the one I typically buy, in the hotdog section. It works better than the turkey bacon when substituting in my opinion. Gives the smokey flavor.
Kandy, send me the recipes. We LOVE potato anything here !
In fact I am making potato soup as we speak. It was actually a bit chilly here today and I had to turn my heat on for the first time this morning. The taters were buy 1 get 1 free from Thanksgiving and I needed to use them up.
Yummy. Now for me those taters sure sound good with some nice lamb chops and asparagus on the side.
